The Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation Act (CALM)

At long last, we will hopefully get some much anticipated relief from having to jump for the remote to lower the sound volume when a television commercial airs while watching TV.

On December 15th, 2009, the House of Representatives passed The Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation Act (CALM) by voice vote!

The Act enables the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to monitor the volume of advertisements in television programming and determine acceptable levels.

Something else I read about that I found interesting is the fact that many advertisers know that there are certain frequencies that people hear better than others. They have been amplifying these frequencies in particular.

The Green Fighting Irish vs. The Gold Bandits

Elijah - Green Fighting Irish 2009

Elijah - Green Fighting Irish 2009

On Thursday, October 29, 2009, the Green Fighting Irish hosted the Gold Bandits for the second of two playoff games in the Rochester Youth Football League. The first game was played on Wednesday, October 28th between the Purple Prowlers and the Blue Outlaws, and resulted in a Purple win (big surprise).

Since the Green B team didn’t finish in the top 4 (they finished 5th), they had to turn their equipment in before the playoff games. They were invited to keep their game shirts to attend the A playoff game and support them. Probably the coolest thing for me in this was the fact that Elijah and 2 other players from the B team were selected to join the A team in the playoffs. Way cool!

The weather was clear but chilly, and I got to run the scoreboard, which was quite a surprise to me. I was asked by one of the coaches to do it, which I found to be entertaining but no simple task for one person. You have to type in all the down, yards to go, ball on the X yard line, scores, quarter, time, etc, plus accurately start and stop the game clock. I think I managed OK until the end of the game, when the officials hollered up to me to put a certain time back on the clock. » More…

The Green Fighting Irish vs. The Blue Outlaws

Green Fighting Irish

Green Fighting Irish

On Wednesday, October 21, the Blue Outlaws hosted the Green Fighting Irish for a 6:00 PM game. It was the last regular season game for Green.

The Blue Outlaws completed several passes early for significant yardage, and went on to score first. Green answered with a kickoff return for a touchdown, and would go score several more times against Blue, who would not score again. The final score was Green 45, Blue 6, giving the Green Fighting Irish A team a record of 6-2 in regular season play.

The B game was exciting, with Green scoring one touchdown and no extra points on their offensive turn. Blue, however, would go on to score twice during their offensive turn, and would be denied their extra points as well. The final score was Blue 12, Green 6. The Green Fighting Irish B team finished the 2009 season with a 2-5-1 record.

Currently, the Green Fighting Irish are in second place in the 2009 Rochester Youth Football League. » More…

The Green Fighting Irish vs. The Purple Prowlers

Green vs. Purple

Green vs. Purple

On October 18th, 2009, the Green Fighting Irish hosted the Purple Prowlers for a 2:00 PM game. The weather was not very friendly; 39 degrees and windy, rainy and at times there was even sleet…

The A’s played well, but had difficulty stopping the Purple running game and #20. Unfortunately, the Green Fighting Irish were shut out by Purple by a score of 28-0. The Green A team is now 4-2, and is likely to play against Gold in the playoffs next week.

The Green B’s scored once during their 12 minutes of Offense. On defense, they allowed two Purple touchdowns, and no extra points. The Purple B team beat Green by a score of 12-6. The Green B team is now 1-4-1. » More…
